Building Blocks

The BOTTLE^™ Building Blocks Task focuses on developing biological and chemical routes to convert biomass and deconstructed plastics to monomers for circular polymers, spanning the gram to kilogram scales. This task bridges the Deconstruction and Redesign Tasks. Below are exemplary projects for each of our primary focus areas.

Synthesis of New Building Blocks for Circular Polymers

• Oxidation of hydrogenolysis products
• Bioconversion of oxidation-derived intermediates to circular polymer building blocks
• Chemo-catalytic synthesis of substituted lactones.

Scale-Up of Building Blocks Syntheses for Circular Polymers

• Scaling selected monomer syntheses to the 1-kilogram scale
• Process R&D and scale-up.
